WARNING: ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Beginning this year, drunk drivers in Texas will pay child support if they kill a child's parent or guardian.

Yes, the core claim is true under Texas House Bill 393 (Bentley's Law), effective Sept 1, 2023.

If a driver is convicted of intoxication manslaughter and kills a child's parent or guardian, courts can order them to pay child support-style restitution until the child turns 18 (or graduates high school, whichever is later). Amount is based on the child's needs and offender's ability to pay.

Not new in 2026 though—it's been active for 2+ years.
