๐Ÿšจ: Scientists from Brazil have created Polylaminin protein and are using it to recover movement and function of spinal cord after an injury

Polylaminin (from placental laminin) is an experimental Brazilian treatment by UFRJ researchers + Cristรกlia lab. It aims to promote axon regrowth in spinal cord injuries when injected directly into the site.

Real results so far: Strong in rat models. In dogs with chronic SCI, 4/6 regained walking ability in a 2025 study. Small human pilots (acute cases): some full/partial motor recovery, esp. if given within 72 hours. Chronic cases show mixed/partial gains like arm movement. Now entering phase 1 human trials (Anvisa-approved 2026). Not approved yet; more large trials needed. Promising but early-stage.
