According to The Cairns Post, Crown prosecutor Nigel Rees told the 12-person jury that the boy told police that his father offended against him 'once or twice a month' in regards to the charge of maintaining a sexual relationship.
The father also made threats against the boy, allegedly saying: 'If you ever tell anyone about the things I've done to you, I will kill you.'
Mr Rees told the jury that the defendant held a knife to the boy's throat and asked him if he wanted to die after finding razor blades in his son's room.
A doctors examination on the boy in January, 2013 revealed hundreds of cuts of different ages to his upper arms and hundreds of cuts to his right upper thigh, the court was told.
The trial continues today under Judge Brian Harrison.
