If
you are itching for Beyonce's new album but don't want to sign up for
Tidal, it appears the subscription music-streaming service's "exclusive"
on the album will be short-lived.
"Lemonade," which was released exclusively on Tidal on Saturday night, will be made available for purchase on Apple's iTunes at midnight Sunday, sources tell The New York Times. The album is available for download at Tidal and will be a Tidal streaming exclusive "in perpetuity," a Tidal spokesman said, declining to comment on the iTunes report.
Representatives for Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
As a part owner in Tidal with her husband, Jay Z, Beyonce has a strong incentive to release her new album through the struggling music-streaming service. But keeping the album an exclusive for Tidal, which has just 3 million subscribers compared with Spotify's 30 million and Apple's 11 million, could limit its exposure, hurting sales.
The release comes less than a week after a Kanye West fan filed a lawsuit against the singer, claiming West lied when he said his recently released album, "The Life of Pablo," would be available only on Tidal.
