Here's a really interesting fact about the new French president you may have missed

Wednesday, 10 May 2017

By now everyone knows that the newly elected French president, Emmanuel Macron is the country's youngest leader since Napoleon at 39y rs and aged 15, he fell in love with his drama teacher, Brigitte Macron who would later become his wife. At 64yrs, she is 25yrs older than her former student turned husband.
Here's the news, Macron ran for the highest office in France as an independent, he has no traditional political party, what's more, it was his first ever election.

Just last year, he rallied his troops around the slogan 'En Marche' translated as 'On The Move' and like a snowball, the movement quickly gathered steam and went from being a movement to France's newest political party.

In a resounding democratic move, the people shunned establishment figures with godfathers and huge campaign war chests in favor of a man with ideas and the powers that be bowed to popular choice. It will be incongruous to compare Nigeria's relatively nascent democracy to France where democracy is woven into the nation's fabric and is best summed up in its national motto: 'Liberty, Equality, Fraternity.'

We can however borrow a leaf from the French. With discontent and disenchantment against established political platforms on the rise, Nigeria is ripe for the emergence of its Emmanuel Macron
