Nigerians showed their anger after photos of President Muhammadu
Buhari’s daughters at the UN General Assembly went viral with many
asking – what the President’s daughters were doing at the UN General
Assembly and who paid for their tickets and accommodation?
Many Nigerians have raised different questions over the matter as
some said the family has turned an important political meeting into a
family jamboree, spending money from starving taxpayers.
Even the President’s media aides are finding it difficult to
provide a reliable answer to the dust that has been raised about the
sincerity of Buhari’s government in cutting expenses as the country
battles recession.
In responding to the questions raised by some people on his twitter
handle, Garba Shehu, SSA, Media & Publicity revealed that the
expenses of the president’s two daughters were not paid by the
government.
“Dear @GarShehu Can you tell us, Who paid for @MBuhari’s children to attend #UNGA and what is the purpose of their attendance?” someone
asked Shehu on Twitter. The question saw many Nigerians venting their
anger over the president’s alleged double-standard.
Shehu in trying to answer the question, said: “None of President @MBuhari’s children now with the family in New York traveled on government tickets.”
he wrote on Twitter. But, that seemed not to work as many Nigerians
told him to show evidence instead of churning statements without proof.
