Igbo Day: Ohanaeze to honour Ifeanyi Ubah, Obiano

The Lagos State chapter of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo will honour the Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Ltd and Publisher of The AUTHORITY Newspapers, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah and the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willy Obiano.
Dr Ubah and other illustrious sons of Igboland are being recognised for their contributions to the development of the South East zone.
Ubah will receive the award during the forthcoming Igbo Day celebrations.
At a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday, the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the state, Chief Fabian Onwughalu, said Ubah will be honoured for singlehandedly saving Nigeria from total collapse caused by an industrial action embarked upon by tanker drivers during the early days of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in 2015.
He said the country was brought to its knees by the scarcity of petroleum products occasioned by that industrial action until Dr Ubah rolled out hundreds of tankers loaded with the products and sent them across the country to the relief of the government and Nigerians.
Onwughalu said that that action of Ubah brought joy to the Lagos chapter of Ohanaeze, adding that the organisation is happy that one of its own is an asset to the country.
He further said that Ubah earned the award by building a state-of the-art sports stadium in Anambra State. According to him, the stadium is second only to the National Stadium, Abuja. He said for an individual to build such a structure, is no mean achievement.
Dr Ubah, according to Onwughalu, has also set up The AUTHORITY Newspapers, “which he is using to promote the interest of the Igbo nation.”
He stated that the newspaper had broken grounds within a short period of time, stressing that these achievements should not go unappreciated by the Ohanaeze.
Governor Obiano, he said, will be honoured for tackling security challenges in the state.
He recalled that before Obiano assumed office, it was not safe to pass by the Upper Iweka Road in Onitsha from 6pm but “now one can do that even at midnight safely.”
Onwughalu said that Onitsha was one of the most unsafe places to be, but now, “Onitsha is safe and secure.”
The Ohanaeze chief added that Anambra used to be a haven for kidnappers but “today there is nothing like kidnapping in the state.”
Onwughalu contended that appreciating these men for their achievements will encourage them to do more and others to emulate them.
The event will feature a series of lectures, with Ubah speaking on entrepreneurship to enable him share his wealth of experience in business with Ndigbo.
Onwughalu, who was flanked by top officials of the organization, said that the Igbo Day in Lagos scheduled for October 15, 2017 has been put off.
He said the postponement is to enable the organisation mobilise Ndigbo for a more successful celebration.
According to the Igbo chief, all major markets in Lagos where Igbo traders are dominant will close for business that day. He said it is going to be grand ceremony which will feature the biggest and most fearful spirit masquerades in Igboland such as Ijele and Ajo ofia masquerades.
