Jimmy Kimmel takes jabs at Donald Trump while hosting the Academy Award, tweets at him live on stage

Monday, 27 February 2017

Jimmy Kimmel, while hosting the Oscars 2017 made President Donald Trump the butt of his jokes throughout the night, taking time to subtly criticize the president and even went as far as tweeting at him twice.

While giving his opening monologue, Kimmel insinuated that most of the countries of the world now hate America because of Trump's policies.

He then took to Twitter while still on stage to send messages to Trump, in what is believed to be a slight Jab at the President for always using the social platform to air his grievances.
"Hey @realDonaldTrump u up?" one of his tweets read.
The other said; "@realDonaldTrump #Merylsayshi."

Donald Trump had earlier attacked actress Meryl Streep for her political Golden Globes speech which criticized him, calling her "over-rated", and Kimmel used his position as the host to help redeem Meryl. First, Kimmel tried for sarcasm as he called on the crowd to give a "highly overrated" Meryl a standing ovation for her 20 oscar nominations all through her career. He said;
"One actress has stood the test of time for her many uninspiring and overrated performances. This is Meryl's 20th Oscar nomination... she wasn't even in a movie this year, we just wrote her name in out of habit."
"Nice dress by the way... Is that an Ivanka?" Kimmel asked Streep, alluding to Trump's daughter's fashion label, which has been dropped by major stores like Nordstrom.

Kimmel also predicted that Trump will tweet criticisms at the Oscar winners' acceptance speech "in all caps during his 5 a.m. bowel movement tomorrow". So far, Trump is yet to reply to the taunts from Kimmel and other Oscar winners who criticized him in their speech.

Asides Kimmel, a number of other Hollywood personalities waxed political during their speech,  Alessandro Bertolazzi, a well-known makeup artist dedicated his win to "all the immigrants".  Moonlight director Barry Jenkins promised the people who do not feel like they have the needed support from the president that the American Civil Liberties Union and artists have got their back over the next four years that Trump is president.

On his part, Iranian director Asghar Farhadi winner of the Academy Award for best foreign film for his drama The Salesman, was not present to accept his win and according to him, it was out of "respect for the people of my country" who have been banned from entering the United States.
Mexican actor, Gael García Bernal, also weighed in as he presented an award saying: "I'm against any form of wall that wants to separate us."

ISIS employs new killing tactic, straps explosive suicide belt to a puppy

Monday, 27 February 2017

ISIS have now moved on from strapping children with suicide belts to strapping animals and sending them into the midst of people to get exploded.

This new tactic was uncovered by Iraqi rebel groups involved in the fight against ISIS after they discovered a puppy with the weapon strapped to it and helped to diffuse the bomb thereby freeing the animal.
The plan had been for the dog to cross to the rival forces where it will then be detonated with a remote device, but the rebel group was able to foil the plan and shared a video online. The explosive was made from several bottles connected by some electrical wires, designed to kill or injure up to four people.

Find more photos of the explosive suicide belt and a video below.

Real life Heroine of Hidden Figures, 98yr old Katherine Johnson was at the Oscars last night with the movie cast

Monday, 27 February 2017

For those of you who have watched the amazing historical movie, Hidden Figures, then you should know who Katherine Goble Johnson is.Taraji P Henson portrayed Katherine in the movie. The 98 year old mathematician who made amazing contributions to the United States' aeronautics and space programs with the early application of digital electronic computers at NASA, was brought on stage by the stars of the movie - Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae - as they presented the award for Best Documentary at the Oscars.

Before announcing the nominees and winner, Taraji introduced Katherine as a true hero...

WOW - women's history finally getting the respect it deserves 🙌🏽 Katherine Coleman Goble Johnson (born August 26, 1918) a physicist and mathematician who made fundamental contributions to the United States' aeronautics and space programs with the early application of digital electronic computers at NASA. Known for accuracy in computerized celestial navigation, her technical work at NASA spanned decades during which she calculated the trajectories, launch windows, and emergency back-up return paths for many flights from Project Mercury including the early NASA missions of John Glenn and Alan Shepard, the 1969 Apollo 11 flight to the Moon, through the Space Shuttle program and even early plans for the Mission to Mars. According to an oral history archived by the National Visionary Leadership Project: At first she worked in a pool of women performing math calculations. Katherine has referred to the women in the pool as virtual 'computers who wore skirts.' Their main job was to read the data from the black boxes of planes and carry out other precise mathematical tasks. Then one day, Katherine (and a colleague) were temporarily assigned to help the all-male flight research team. Katherine's knowledge of analytic geometry helped make quick allies of male bosses and colleagues to the extent that, "they forgot to return me to the pool." While the racial and gender barriers were always there, Katherine says she ignored them. Katherine was assertive, asking to be included in editorial meetings (where no women had gone before.) She simply told people she had done the work and that she belonged. #theunsungheroines #gamechangers#hiddenfigures#hiddenfigures #oscars

Oscars 2017 mix-up: "La La Land" accepts the award for best picture before "Moonlight" is announced as the actual winner.

Monday, 27 February 2017

What happened last night at the Oscars was very similar to what happened at the 2016 Miss Universe pageant when Steve Harvey read the name of the runner up as the winner. Actress/presenter Faye Dunaway did same last night by awarding "La La Land" as the best picture Oscar that should have gone to "Moonlight."

While the "La La Land" cast was onstage hugging one another and giving their speeches, producer Jordan Horowitz made an announcement that shocked everyone. "Moonlight" had actually won.

He then held up the card that proved "Moonlight" was the winner.

Actor/director Warren Beatty, who had presented the award with Faye Dunaway, took responsibility for the mistake, explaining that he and Dunaway had been given a card with the winner for best actress -- Emma Stone for "La La Land" -- and that Dunaway had then mistakenly read that as the winning film.

"I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, 'La La Land.' That's why I took such a long look at Faye, and at you," Beatty told the crowd amid the confusion on stage. "I wasn't trying to be funny."

The Moonlight crew then came on stage to receive their award as host Jimmy Kimmel tried to lighten the mood.

La La Land led the night with six awards, including Best Director for Chazelle and Best Actress for Emma Stone while Moonlight took home three awards

Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians: Abike Dabiri-Erewa calls on AU to intervene, blasts South African Home Affairs Minister

Monday, 27 February 2017

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora has called on the South African government to take definitive measures to protect Nigerians and other Africans in their country. She also called on the African Union to intervene urgently in the renewed xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa.

She also described the suggestion by Mr. Malusi Gigaba, South African Home Affairs Minister, that diplomacy is the solution to attacks on Nigerians in his country as very insensitive. In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, she said:
“It appears that Mr. Gigaba would rather dwell on and entertain himself with diplomatic niceties when the welfare of Nigerians resident in South Africa are at stake now more than any time in recent history.
“His response to the xenophobic attacks, which has now become a recurring decimal on Africans, most especially Nigerians living peacefully in their host country of South Africa was indeed unfortunate.
“While it’s no longer news that law-abiding Nigerians in that country have borne the major brunt of these attacks, the news by the Home Affairs Minister that his country is trying to get rid of criminals in his country at the time when indiscriminate mayhem and looting of law-abiding Nigerians is very suspicious, to say the least.
“Even if this unguarded statement must be taken in its face value, we wonder if wanton destruction and indiscriminate killing of their African brothers is the most sensible excuse to give. ‘The home affairs minister should have been more guarded and introspective in his statements so as not to further fan the embers of xenophobia that may get out control if care is not taken.
“Nigeria and South Africa have a long-standing diplomatic relationship in which the former played a critical, if not a pivotal role that culminated in ending apartheid, among so many of her positive interventions. ‘Indiscriminate killings, in which 116 deaths have been recorded of her people MUST not be how Nigeria should be paid back. Xenophobia is such a debilitating social disease, based mostly on ignorance, in which its carrier also suffers.
“I therefore suggest that the home affairs minister should engage in the mass education of the South African people about the debilitating effects of this disease with immediate effect. “It is apt to mention at this juncture that the home affairs minister only met with African consulates forum, an association of African consuls general, based in South Africa recently , despite the fact that this meeting was long overdue.
“Mr. Gigaba’s response to the mayhem that a segment of the South African people perpetrated on law-abiding Nigerians in South Africa smirks of insensitivity, and it’s therefore very reprehensible, if not unacceptable.
“In view of this unfortunate statement, I am therefore restating my earlier call on the African Union (AU) to take up the South Africa’s xenophobic issue as a matter of urgency. ‘The days that the Nigerian government will fold its arms while its citizens are maltreated to the point that some of them have lost their lives for no just cause are long gone”.

Bola Tinubu says he cannot rule out the possibility of ruling Nigeria

Monday, 27 February 2017

In an exclusive chat with Sahara Reporters, National Leader of APC, Bola Tinubu, says he cannot rule out the possibility of him ruling Nigeria. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu last Friday, Tinubu said:

“You see there is nothing wrong with such ambition. It depends on the timing and the environment and what political leadership dictates. I will not brush aside such an aspiration. It has been historical even that Buhari tried first, second, third, and forth before he got it. Resilience, determination, and clarity of purpose. Maybe as a senator, maybe as a president, you cannot rule it out. How can I rule such a thing out, the opportunity to service my country but you only do that when there is a vacancy”.

UK to begin trial of former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, in June

Monday, 27 February 2017

The United Kingdom will begin the trial of former Minister of Petroleum Resources Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, and four others  in London, in June 2017, over allegations of corruption and money laundering.

Diezani who has been in the UK since 2015, is alleged to have stashed in the UK, proceeds from corrupt practices she got while in office.
The National Crime Agency, a national law enforcement and police agency in the United Kingdom.(NCA), on October 2nd 2015 arrested Alison-Madueke and four others including her brothers, for alleged bribery and corruption and money laundering.

According to The Nation, a source at EFCC says one of the suspects to be tried alongside the former minister was recently found at a hideout in London. The source denied cliams in some quarters that the antigraft agency was in a secret negotiation with her.
“The UK investigators have gone far on the allegations against Diezani. From the records made available, the ex-minister and four others will face trial as from June. We have taken more evidence to the UK, including all court records relating to the final forfeiture of $153million. We have a huge pile of documents. In fact, one of the suspects on the radar of investigators has been located in London and he is under surveillance.”
Addressing claims of a negotiation between the agency and the former Minister, the source said
“There is no basis to negotiate with the ex-Minister in view of the overwhelming evidence at our disposal. You should ask yourself what purpose the negotiation will serve. The EFCC is set for the trial of the ex-minister at home and abroad. It is curious to be talking of a curious negotiation with someone who has a prima facie case to answer. The ex-minister has forfeited $153m; we have had far-reaching investigation on her involvement in the $115m poll bribery scandal; we have seized some of her choice properties and she has consistently maintained that she is ready for trial. So, what is the basis for negotiation when we have a good case?”
Messrs Abiye Agama and Somye Agama are Mrs Alison-Madueke siblings who operate some UK-based businesses hurriedly shut them after the NCA and the EFCC searchlight became intense.

The two brothers are directors of Hadley Petroleum Solutions Limited, a company the authorities believe was  used for money laundering. The other directors are Ugonna Madueke and Abu Fari.

The company was registered in June 2013 in Manchester, but was dissolved less than two years later last  February without filing any account.

Abiye, 33, a point man of the firm, is a computer engineer and manager. He was a director in 11 other companies. He resigned from seven of them.

According to EFCC records, some of the assets  linked with Mrs. Alison-Madueke are:

A block of six units service apartments on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi
Six units terrace flats in Yaba, Lagos Mainland
Twin four-bedroom duplexes in Lekki Phase I
    Two duplexes on Banana Island
A duplex in Asokoro District, Abuja
    A mini-estate in Mabushi, Abuja
A set of 12 terrace duplexes at Omaremi Street  in Port Harcourt
Large expanse of land at Oniru, Victoria Island in Lagos
A multi-billion Naira estate in Yenagoa
Two apartments in Dubai marked as J5 Emirates Hills (30million Dirham) and  E146 Emirates Hills valued at 44million Dirham
A hotel in Port Harcourt under investigation
$37.5m mansion on Banana Island in Lagos.

But Alison-Madueke had disputed some of the slush funds and assets  attributed to her including the $153million.

In a statement she released, Diezani maintained that the $153 million recently seized was her personal money and that she can and will never steal form the Nigerian government
“I have up till now chosen to maintain my silence and not to respond to inaccurate press reporting. However, given the level of deliberate inaccuracies, I am now forced to respond because it is clear that the EFCC is taking advantage of my silence to try me by media and to convict me in the eyes of the public on false reports. First and foremost, whilst the reasons for my being out of the country are public knowledge, the principle of fair hearing demands that I should have been notified of formal charges if truly there was a prima facie evidence or indictment against my person linking me with the said issue, so as to ensure that I had adequate legal representation. This was never done. I wish to state that I cannot forfeit what was never mine. I do not know the basis on which the EFCC has chosen to say that I am the owner of these funds as no evidence was provided to me before the order was obtained and they have not in fact served me with the order or, any evidence since they obtained it. I do not therefore, understand how the EFCC can in the same breath say that the monies in question are mine. If they had evidence that the monies were mine then they would not /should not, have used the procedure which applies only to funds of unknown ownership. If indeed they used this particular legal procedure because they did not know who owned the monies, then how can they now be falsely attributing the ownership to me. Let me re-state categorically as I have always maintained, for the record, I have not and will never steal money from or defraud the Federal Government of Nigeria.  I am willing to respond to any charges brought against me that follow duly laid down procedures.”

Meet woman who suffers from rare condition that makes her smell of fish

Monday, 27 February 2017

Imagine walking around always smelling of rotten fish and onion? That's the sad reality for Kelly Fidoe-White from Oldham, Greater Manchester, England, who was born with a rare condition called Trimethylaminuria that causes her to reek of a nauseating fishy smell.
Kelly first became aware of her condition when she was in school and kids always taunted her about smelling of fish. Kelly gave excuses, saying that she ate a fish sandwich, however, when the smell never reduced and she ran out of excuses, she became the object of extreme bullying.

To combat the smell, she began spending a lot of time in the shower, scrubbing her body till it was red, soaking herself in deodorants and perfumes, yet nothing worked and the bullying only worsened. Now, she copes by taking a cocktail of medications, but is unsure if they have any effect or not.

Trimethylaminuria is a condition which causes one's body to be unable to break down a compound found in food that contains a substance called Choline, meaning a lot of ingredients are off the menu. People suffering from the condition regularly produce a range of strong bodily odours including rotten fish, onion and faeces. Kelly describes her own smell as 'fishy-oniony'.

The condition is relatively unknown, even amongst doctors, and affects between 300 – 600 people worldwide. This means that Kelly had to research and diagnose herself and a test was done, confirming her diagnosis. There is no cure for the condition and Kelly handles it now by taking a cocktail of medications but is unsure if they have any effect or not.

To limit the number of people she comes in contact with, Kelly works a night job where colleagues say you can tell if she's been in a place and some of her co-workers make complaints about her smell. She has found love now and she revealed that her husband's acceptance of her condition has helped boost her confidence.

The world’s first transgender doll for children is finally here (photo)

Saturday, 25 February 2017

The world's first transgender doll was released this month by New York based doll company, Tonner Doll. The doll is based on Jazz Jennings, the 16-year-old transgender teenager who has identified as female since she was just a toddler (pictured right - she's a YouTube personality, spokesmodel, TV personality and LGBTQ rights activist). Sharing a photo of the doll, Jazz wrote;

This is the first transgender doll on the market, and guess what?! It's ME!!!😱😍 @tonnerdoll did a great job of creating this beautiful item! Guess the battle line has officially been drawn. A few weeks after sending a letter of demand asking his estranged wife, Toke Makinwa to retract the words in her tell-all memoir, On Becoming, to stop the sale of the book, copies that haven't been sold should be retrieved and for her to tender an unreserved apology in several national dailies, which Toke, of course, ignored, Maje Ayida has instituted legal action against Toke, asking for N100million in damages over the book he claims contains defamatory words that do not represent his person.

According to The Cable, Maje's lawyers began legal proceedings at Lagos High Court on February 7th. Toke's publishers, Kachifo Limited are also being sued alongside Toke.

In his suit, Maje asked the court to donate any damages awarded him in the case to four charities which he will pick himself.
