TUC rises against Gov Obiano

Members of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have vowed to do what is needful to frustrate the second term bid of Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State if he continues to withhold their rights and privileges.
The TUC members under the aegis of Senior Civil Servants Association of Nigeria, condemned the withholding of their promotions since early 2016 under the disguise that there is no money to pay them if promoted.
The senior workers asked Obiano to sack or reduce to manageable size, his over-bloated special advisers of 638 to pay them.
A member of the executive of the TUC told The AUTHORITY that Obiano misfired by not promoting them after the state government advertised and concluded the promotion interview.
He said: “There is no reason whatsoever to withhold the promotion of a worker who went for interview and passed. So, many of us are not happy with the governor but they are waiting for who would say that and start victimising the person.
“Let him consider sacking all these people moving about and creating confusion in the name of SAs. They have no offices and have no job description. They are just roaming about and looking for Internally-General Revenue (IGR) windows. Our entitlements are our concerns and nothing else. Obiano should pay us our entitlements and promote us, so that others can come up.
His SAs collect N1.5 million wardrobe allowances and were paid about N300,000 before it was slashed to N150,000 for some aides and others still enjoy the jumbo pay.
“Go and tell the working Willie Obiano that the civil servants are angry with him and he should meet our demands immediately or we will teach him a lesson during the election,” the TUC official said.
Confirming the grievances of the senior civil servants, the state Chairman of TUC, Comrade Ifeanyi Okechukwu, said the promotions were done but have not been effected.
He said that Obiano had begged the workers to tarry a while so that he can sort out the issues.
