Gnuse started getting tattoos after developing a rare medical condition known as porphyria, which caused her skin to blister when exposed to sunlight and left scars as deep as three-degree burn. Miss Gnuse said there was medication available for her condition, but taking it could have the side effect of possible blindness. Thus she resorted to the body art -- although the ink did not stop her skin from blistering, it covered up the scars and allowed her to be exposed to the sun.

A Nigerian comedian, Idisi Akpobome says was denied entry to Cambodia on
Saturday, July 30 after refusing to pay a $1,000 bribe to immigration officials
at Phnom Penh International Airport.
A senior immigration official
confirmed Mr. Akpobome, who was scheduled to perform in
Phnom Penh over the weekend, was sent back to Kuala Lumpur on Saturday
morning but denied that airport staff asked for a bribe;
Speaking from Malaysia on Sunday, the comedian, also known as Idisi
Akpos, said he arrived in Phnom Penh at about 10:40 a.m. on Saturday
with plans to perform at Meta House that night and at the Redeemed
Christian Church of God on Sunday morning.
"Everything happened so fast," Mr. Akpobome said, adding that when he landed he was pulled aside and interrogated.
A
group of four immigration officials photocopied his passport
and asked him why he was traveling to Cambodia and how much money he was
carrying—even escorting him to an ATM to check his bank balance. At one
point, he said, they asked him for $1,000 to enter the country.
Mr.
Akpobome said he had acquired a three-month visa at the Cambodian
Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, booked a return ticket for Monday and reserved a
hotel room in Phnom Penh for two nights. He said he was traveling with
$50 in U.S. bills and about 300 Malaysian ringgit, roughly $75, as well
as additional funds on two credit cards.
None of this, however,
was good enough for the immigration officials, Mr. Akpobome said, and he
decided to fly home rather than pay the $1,000.
"I
know the things like that happen,” he said. "But I don’t think what
happened was appropriate. They were after the money," he said.
Kem Sarin, spokesman for the
Interior Ministry’s immigration department, said airport officials would
not have demanded $1,000 from Mr. Akpobome "because a visa is only
$35."
A senior immigration official at the airport, who requested
anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media, said Mr.
Akpobome was sent back to Malaysia on Saturday, but only because he had a
mere $50 with him and did not provide a clear reason for his travel. He
said the comedian did not tell officials about his scheduled gigs or
hotel reservations.
The official also denied the bribery allegation. "He exaggerated. No one demanded $1,000 from him. He had only $50. Some
visitors come and cause a lot of problems in our country, like
Nigerians," He admitted that Nigerians were often
subjected to extra scrutiny at the airport.
"We seem to pay a bit more attention when deciding whether to allow them to enter,” he said.
Koledoye
Abayomi Olushola, president of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization
in Cambodia, said he was not familiar with Mr. Akpobome’s case but that
Nigerians were regularly asked for bribes at the airport.
"It’s a battle we continue to fight every time. We
have brought this issue to the attention of the director of
immigration," he said, adding that his pleas had been met with
demands for hard evidence to prove that officials were demanding bribes.

Jay was just
17 years as at the time of the devastating accident. He spent three
weeks in a coma, a further three months in intensive care and left the
hospital six months later feeling weak and weighing only seven stone.
Jay
vowed to himself to do everything he could to build his strength back
up and hit the gym , making up is his mind that not even his condition
could stop him.
“When I came
out of the coma I was in a bad way” said Jay. “I had a fractured spine,
my arm was broken in three places, I had a shattered collarbone, elbow,
wrist, and pelvis, and four broken ribs puncturing both lungs.
“My
right leg had been torn off above the knee, and I had ripped the nerves
out controlling most of my right arm, making it almost useless.
“I felt sickened and didn’t know how I could face life with half of my body missing or not functioning.”
“I
was determined to get back on track and to get as fit and as strong as I
could. As soon as I got my artificial leg I went back to work as a
mechanic and hit the gym.”
Unable to exercise
the damaged right side of his body he focused on his left, defying the
advice of his doctors to train hard and changed his diet, giving up junk
food and eating a specially constructed diet
“I could feel myself getting stronger and the gains spurred me on to train even harder,” he says.
Now in a good shape, 7 years later, Jay now weighs an amazing 14 stone, double what he weighed at the time of his injury.

Jay’s
girlfriend Gemma Johnson also plans to become a personal trainer so
that the couple, who first bonded over their love of exercise, can work
together and achieve great things together..
“Now
Gemma and I train together all the time and we have even started taking
part in contests together, both winning awards and being recognised for
our efforts.”
“I thought my life was over but the
truth was it was only just beginning. Thanks to the support of friends
and family and my love of the gym I have turned it all around and now
I’m in the best shape of my entire life. I feel great.”

Ndigbo youths warn against attempts to remove Ekweremadu as Deputy Senate President

The Ohaneze Ndigbo youths in a statement released by the co-coordinator Abuja and Liaison Officer, Northern Region of Ohanaeze Youth, Obasi Ogbonnaya, said any attempt to remove Ekweremadu will fail as Nigerians are comfortable with the current leadership of the senate.
The statement in reads in part
“Nigerians from all works of life are already comfortable with the leadership of the Senate and those plotting to threaten the Senate leadership especially the office of the Deputy Senate President occupied by Senator Ike Ekweremadu should shelve such move as it will surely fail. The South East is also comfortable with Senator Ekweremadu and his achievements in the Senate. His Constituency in Enugu East Senatorial zone and the entire South East are feeling his impact. We have gotten information that some hatchet persons from the South East APC have been busy lobbying the Senate membership and the Presidency to lend their support to the devilish plan to threaten the office of the Senate President. We warn such people to desist from such ill-fated moves as it is bound to fail. The fact that there is now a APC Senator from the South East which is however still subject to litigations at the tribunals does not in any way make such persons to begin to try the impossible as the South East and Nigerians will resist that. Of course the Senate is made up of cerebral and patriotic minds that will not lend themselves to any such act. We warn busy body persons of South East extraction who may lend themselves to be used for any such unpatriotic move to prepare to face the wrath of Ndigbo and Nigerians.
