Saturday, June 11, 2016

At least 1,300 migrants of various African nationalities, including Nigeria, have been rescued from the Mediterranean by Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF Sea) with the help of Sea Watch, in the last 48 hours.

The search and rescue vessels, Aquarius, Dignity and Argos brought on board the migrants, some of them women, children, including toddlers and babies. They were later transfered to Sicilly, Italy.
Every year, thousands of people fleeing violence, insecurity or in search of better life attempts a treacherous journey across the Mediterranean Sea. More than 1,200 people this year alone have drowned or gone missing after their boats capsized or sank.
