Obiano's wife becomes UNICEF, EU Ambassador
Chief Mrs Ebelechuk­wu Obiano, wife of Governor Willie Obiano has been named the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Am­bassador of the European Union (EU) and the (UNI­CEF).
A joint delegation from the EU and the UNICEF announced the nomination when they visited governor Obiano at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.
The visit by the delega­tion was to intimate Mrs Obiano on the award billed to take place later this year, in October.
The award will afford the governor’s wife opportu­nity to interact with both organisations; to give vis­ibility to her pet project/programmes, the Caring Family Enhancement Ini­tiative (CAFE) in the areas of Sanitation and Hygiene, Child and Maternal Health and Youth and Women Empowerment.
Receiving the delega­tion, governor Obiano said Sanitation and Hygiene are critical in achieving his ad­ministration’s vision to im­proving the Health condi­tion of Ndi Anambra.
He described CAFE as a project driven by his wife’s passion to impact lives, not­ing that so far, the project has excelled with support from her pension from the NNPC where she worked and donations from well-meaning individuals, to give meaning to the lives of many in the State.
According to him, the State Government has worked out a modality with support from benefitting communities, to protect and sustain projects ex­ecuted under the initiative and other programmes of development partners.
While thanking the del­egation for recognising the efforts of his wife, governor Obiano assured that his government will continue in its strategic collaboration with development partners to secure the best for Ndi Anambra.
