Comic super fan rocks up to his wedding in original Batmobile

Friday, July 1, 2016

Richard Ashworth loves comic superheroes so much he had a batman emblem engraved on his wedding ring. He however got the biggest surprise from his step-father and best man, Steve Richardson, 55, who gave the groom the original 1966 Batmobile specially for the big day with his bride, Sarah Clayton, 29.

Richard, from Fleetwood, Lancs., said:
"It was a massive surprise. I had no idea at all. I was a bit overcome to be honest. Sarah thought it was brilliant. It was something a bit unique and different. I've been a huge fan of superheroes for as long as I can remember. I've even got the Batman logo on my wedding ring, so it tied in quite nicely."
The iconic vehicle was secretly moved from London to Blackpool for the special day. The car was used in the 1966-1968 live action Batman television show and its film adaptation, and boasted a bat-ray, a super-powered bat magnet, a hidden bat laser-beam, and a bat-radar.
His father, Steve said:
"Richard is very interested in comic book characters, especially Batman. I wanted to introduce the element of surprise. He was overcome and drawn to tears. Sarah was gobsmacked because she didn't have a clue - we kept it a secret from all the family.
"The first time she saw it was when Richard drove up outside the Winter Gardens. We caused quite a commotion because it was armed forces day so the crowds were out in the square. We were absolutely swamped.
That Batmobile was actually used by Adam West, the original Batman. It's not a replica - it was actually used in the live-action TV series. I'm lead to believe there's only two of them still available for use." Richard even has a Spiderman tattoo on his arm.

Apple opens talks to acquire Jay Z's Tidal

Friday, July 1, 2016

Apple is allegedly in talks to acquire Tidal, a streaming-music service run by rapper and business mogul Jay Z. Buying Tidal would give Apple Music one less competitor in the streaming music space.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the news came after various reports that Tidal has been shopping for potential buyers, including holding talks last year with Napster, the company formally called Rhapsody.

According to unnamed sources, Apple is exploring the idea of bringing on Tidal to bolster its Apple Music service because of Tidal’s strong ties to popular artists such as Kanye West, Rihanna and Madonna.

Terms of the potential deal aren’t known.

Jay-Z bought the service in March 2015 for $56 million from Swedish company Aspiro. He launched the service under the brand Tidal a month later. He has given 19 famous artists and bands small stakes in Tidal and promised each millions of dollars worth of marketing, according to people familiar with the matter.

A Tidal spokesman said Tidal executives had not held talks with Apple.

Spotify still remains the largest service with 30 million subscribers.

Tidal, meanwhile, doubled its subscriber base in the last six months, from 1 million to just over 3 million, according to CEO Jeff Toig, largely on the strength of its artist exclusives with the likes of West and Beyonce

An Apple spokesman declined to comment. Tidal representatives have also kept mum about the supposedly on going talks.

US military lifts ban on transgender service members

Friday, July 1, 2016

The US military lifted the ban on transgender people to openly serve in the military, with Defense Secretary Ash Carter saying that the armed services "don't want barriers unrelated to a person’s qualifications to serve." Ash Carter made the announcement at a Pentagon news conference on Thursday, June 30. The change is said to be effective immediately. Top Pentagon officials finalized details of the plan earlier in the week.

Carter said:
"The Defense Department and the military need to avail ourselves of all talent possible in order to remain what we are now - the finest fighting force the world has ever known"."We don't want barriers unrelated to a person’s qualifications to serve preventing us from recruiting or retaining the soldier, sailor, airman or Marine who can best accomplish the mission."
The plan directs every branch of the armed services to implement new policies affecting recruiting, medical care, housing and uniforms for transgender troops. The military services will conduct training for commanders and medical personnel over the next 90 days who have transgender personnel in their units. Over the next nine months, there will be training for all military services and medical personnel in regards to transgender military personnel.
"When the training is complete, no later than one year from today, the military services will begin accessing transgender individuals who meet all standards, holding them to the same physical and mental fitness standards as everyone else who wants to join the military," said Carter.
Army Intelligence Officer Captain Jennifer Peace and other transgender service members from SPARTA pose with Secretary of Defense Ash Carter on June 24, 2016.
Last July he announced he would lift the ban and formed a task force to review how that process would commence. He directed the task force to work under the assumption that the ban would be lifted. The task force's assessment continued beyond the original six-month deadline, and recommendations were not presented until February.
"All this represents a sea change from even a decade ago," said Carter. "It’s important that we do it."
According to a Rand Corp. study, an estimated 2,500 active service members out of 1.3 million are transgender, and about 65 service members seek to make a gender transition each year. The study determined that any medical or institutional costs associated with the policy change would be minimal.

Once the plan is fully in place, the military’s health care system will pay for gender reassignment surgery. Any treatment will be categorized as nonurgent and subject to a service member’s current readiness status.

For new transgender military hopefuls, they have to have had their gender reassignments at least 18 months before joining the military and have to be stable.

AGF is not answerable to the senate- Presidency says

Friday, July 1, 2016

Special Assistant to President Buhari on Prosecution attached to the Federal Ministry of Justice, Okoi Obono-Obla, has said the senate lacked constitutional powers to summon the Attorney General of the Federation and Chief Justice of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, over the case of alleged forgery of senate order filed by his office against Senate President Bukola Saraki, his deputy Ike Ekweremadu and two others.

Obono-Obla who represented Malami at the senate public hearing on the alleged forgery case yestrday, told newsmen that Malami had not erred in charging the principal officers of the senate to court.

He said Malami is answerable to President Buhari and not the Senate
“The AG has not done anything wrong. The AG has not undermined democracy. He acted pursuant to his powers vested on him by the Constitution, Section 174 (1) says he can prosecute anybody. And he has done that. The Senate is not on trial. He has not taken the Senate to court. He has taken four persons to court. They are not the Senate. Being President of the Senate does not make you the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The matter was investigated by the police and a prima facie case was established and the AG invoked his powers under Section 174 (1) to initiate criminal proceedings against those persons. And this matter is now before a court of law. There is separation of powers in Nigeria. It is not the position of senators to constitute themselves into a court of law. He’s (AGF) not answerable to them. By virtue of the principle of Separation of Powers, he is answerable to the President who appointed him. And he has not done anything wrong. You cannot be a judge in your own case. We don’t have confidence in the committee.”he said

Damon Dash finally speaks out about how Beyonce's 'Lemonade' affected his family

Friday, July 1, 2016

Dame Dash recently spoke about how Beyonce's overly loyal fans reaction to her song 'Lemonade', affected his family.
When Bey released her sixth album, Lemonade, the world was instantly drawn to one song in particular, as it brought to light possible infidelity between the singer and her husband Jay Z. The track "Sorry," is about another woman whom she referred to as "Becky with the good hair. The song fueled rumours that Rachael Roy was the woman Jay Z allegedly cheated on Beyoncé with.
The Beyhives went into overdrive, they didn't only attack Rachael Roy, the went in for her daughters, especially Ava. They invaded her Instagram page and left nasty comments. In fact, they unleashed the worst venom on the young girl. All the comments were upsetting to read. So, imagine how her father felt.
The music mogul says he could care less about the rumors about his ex-wife Rachel Roy, but he did have a problem with fans bringing his daughters into the drama, attempting to involve them in the social media backlash Roy experienced once the song came out.
“The only issue I had is them putting pressure on my children," Dash said. "And for me it’s the history between me and Jay [Z] and me being his partner at the time in Roc-A-Feller and Rocawear and all that and [his] best friend. Of course on a human level, it would bother me."
Dash called in therapist Dr. Jen to help him address the rumors during a conversation airing on his own radio show, The Dame Dash Show, adding that he didn’t want to discuss the album and its aftermath until he could do so professionally. He also shared he wasn’t interested in gaining any press from the situation, and wanted to wait until he could talk about it on his own platform.
"I didn’t address it until I got to address it professionally," he said. "I believe in therapy, and I believe an objective opinion sometimes helps you be a better person."
Dash also went on say that he feels bullying in any form should not be tolerated, and was displeased when his daughters became a target in the situation, simply because of who their mother is.
"The worst disrespect of all time is to disrespect someone’s children. The way I was feeling about it, is that anyone who would harass a child is a coward. I have been in rap for a while but I have never had anyone disrespect my kids."
